Miami Dolphins (o6.5 +118 / u8.5 -143) 2020 Preview
The 2020 Dolphins are an interesting team. They are still young and inexperienced. They have a roster that can be described as Foxborough South. They have drafted their franchise QB in Tua Tagovailoa and he will be playing at some point in the year. They have revamped their RB room. They are also still the worst team in the division.
The difference between this Dolphins team and the Jets, though, is upside. The Fins could really break out in the next couple of years. Brian Flores is one of the best young coaches in the league. DeVante Parker could finally live up to the hype (for a full season). The secondary has to play better than being league-worst last year. We will find out if Xavien Howard is the real deal this year. The 1-2 punch of Matt Breida and Jordan Howard should be efficient and help Fitzpatrick move the ball early in the season.
Oh yea, expect Fitzmagic to start this year. All the coachspeak about Tua being healthy and “ready to go” is just that, Coachspeak. With no real training camp and not getting reps with the first team, I don’t expect to see Tua until midseason. And when Tua does start, which will be exciting for fans, I will be excited to fade the Fins. You see, half of good handicapping is just fading the ESPN narrative. The four-letter network will surely paint Tua as the team’s savior and hype up his first few starts – that’s fine, I’ll just be sure to be on the other side of those. In regards to early in the season – I will be backing the Dolphins! Fitzpatrick is a grizzled (with quite a mighty beard) veteran who will give the Dolphins a shot to win early on. Even if he throws a couple of interceptions, he doesn’t get fazed; he keeps throwing. I also expect the Dolphins D to be much better this year, with former Patriot Kyle Van Noy and Shaq Lawson as key acquisitions.
A lot could break right (and wrong) for the Fins this year. I am staying away from the win total but will be on them early on and fading them once Tua starts.
No season total play.
